Why We Exist
Geaux Forward was founded by non-offending parents and caregivers who have lived through abuse—both personally and through the devastating experience of supporting their children after disclosure.
We know firsthand what happens after the moment everything changes.
Families are often thrown into a complex, fragmented, and overwhelming system involving law enforcement, child protection, courts, medical providers, victim services, financial survival, and long-term healing. Too often, families are expected to navigate this maze alone—while traumatized, grieving, and afraid.
Geaux Forward exists because no family should have to figure this out by themselves.
Because it can happen to anyone.
What We Do
Geaux Forward is a volunteer-led, community-supported nonprofit dedicated to helping families impacted by abuse and violent crime move forward—step by step—from crisis to stability, and ultimately toward healing and hope.
We focus on real-world guidance, honest information, and coordinated support for:
Victims of Crime and Their Families, including survivors of:
- Child sexual abuse
- Physical abuse
- Emotional and psychological abuse
- Domestic violence
- Sexual assault
- Neglect
- Trafficking
- Financial exploitation
- Complex trauma related to systemic failures or discrimination
We acknowledge the real barriers families face, including:
- Discrimination within systems
- Financial instability and loss of income
- Confusion surrounding Victims of Crime Reparations
- Limited access to trauma-informed therapy
- Gaps between agencies and services
Our approach is simple but powerful:
Help families survive first—then give them the tools to thrive.
How We Work
Geaux Forward is actively developing a comprehensive, living resource system—a practical guide for families and advocacy partners that answers the hardest question families ask:
“It happened. Now what?”
This includes:
- A step-by-step survival guide for families after disclosure
- Clear explanations of Victims of Crime Reparations and financial assistance
- Guidance on accessing therapy to thrive, not just crisis care
- Checklists, timelines, and plain-language explanations of systems and rights
- A resource binder and kit designed for families, advocates, churches, and agencies
This resource is being developed now, with the intent to:
- Release updates regularly
- Share directly with partner agencies and community organizations
- Provide free access to families who need it most
